A wet start for Evesham as floods hit again.

January 2021 could not get any worse for Evesham. A third lockdown and now floods.

Evesham was again another victim of the floods, as Storm Cristoph sparked floods and strong winds throughout the UK.

This makes it the 5th time the town was flooded, the latest being in 2019 and possibly the worst being in 2007.

Out of all the areas in Evesham, the Crown Meadow and Waterside were the most affected areas yet again with almost all of the park being flooded.

The only road that was closed due to the flooding was Waterside road, where entrances to the Community Hospital, the local cemetery and a local Caravan site were blocked.

One car was stranded during the middle of the flooded road.

A few restaurants and the Northwick Hotel had to put up flood defences just in case the river levels increase more than this weekend.

The last few floods in the town had caused many stores to close, including an antiques store that had closed and became a European import food store.

One of the employees at the Northwick was concerned about more flooding in the future.

“It would really risk our jobs even more if the flood levels kept on rising” said Steph, a waitress who is currently on furlough due to the national lockdown.

“The hotel was flooded dramatically in 1998 & 2007, they even had to close for over a year because of it”.

Many people had come outside to see the aftermath with many shocked and surprised.

The local MP, Nigel Huddleston, also tweeted to keep Evesham townsfolk aware and safe.

Entrances and pavements at Crown Meadow and Abbey Park were also closed due to the water levels being at their highest again.

The local park near the Main Bridge was all submerged, meaning no playtime for the babies and kids this week.

On a positive side, the current flood has not impacted Port Street and has not been given any warnings from the Met Office this week.

And hopefully, the Evesham Council can quickly recover from the floods and prepare for another perfect Spring.
