Overview of the Official Charts - 19th January 2024

It's Friday and, as always, it's time to check up on the UK Singles & Albums Charts.

Last week saw the new releases from Ariana Grande and Lil Nas X. Both managed to make a scene on the internet and now it's their chance to make a stance on the charts along with other musicians.

So how are things in the top 40? Let's take a look.

SINGLES

Well, this is a surprise. "J Christ" by Lil Nas X has tanked at a low position of 59! Not even the music video could take it higher.

Also missing out on the top 40 is Nathan Evans with "Heather On The Hill"; it only made it to 42 this week.

You may recognise Nathan Evans as the man who famously covered the sea shanty "Wellerman", which went to #1 in 2021.

Into the top 40, Tom Odell's "Black Friday" returns to the top 40 at 31. It originally peaked at 21 in September 2023.

21 Savage's latest album 'American Dream' was released last week. This week, three songs enter the top 40.

The first track, "N.H.I.E." features Doja Cat and enters at 27. The second track is "Nee Nah" and features Travis Scott and Metro Boomin'; it enters the charts at 23. And finally, "Redrum" charts at 11 with vocals from Usher.

We have a debuting artist at 23. The song is "Never Lose Me" and is sang by Flo Milli and features Lil' Yachty.

Flo Milli was born in Alabama on the 9th of January 2000 and started rapping when she was 18.

The rapper has released two mixtapes so far and is set to release her first album "Fine Ho, Stay" this year on RCA records.

D-Block Europe team up with Noizy on the track "Eagle. It's entered the top 20 at 19 and is D-Block Europe's 30th top 40 single in the UK Singles Charts.

Rising up to six places to 18 is "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield.

Teddy Swims has swam all the way into the top 5. "Lose Control" continues to win many fans, and he'll continue to grab more as he goes on tour in the UK from the 13th of May to the 2nd of June.

The highest new entry in the Singles Charts is Ariana Grande. "Yes, And?" makes it all away to 2. It's a house-pop tune that is likely to get people on the dancefloor over the next few weeks.

And at #1, for a third week in a row, is Noah Kahan's juggernaut song "Stick Season". Never underestimate the power of TikTok.

It's likely that Noah will stay on the top of the charts for another week.

ALBUMS

There are only four new entries in the top 40 of the UK Albums Charts.

Starting off at 30 is Bill Ryder-Jones with his seventh album 'Iechyd Da'. The name of the album means 'cheers' in Welsh.

Ryder-Jones is the co-founder of the band The Coral, who are known for the songs "In The Morning" and "Pass It On".

Shed Seven's number 1 album 'A Matter Of Time' falls down 28 places to 29.

At 3, it's 'Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations' by the Vaccines.

It's their sixth album and its name is inspired by the lyrics of Don McLean's "American Pie".

2nd place in the Album Charts is 'American Dream' by 21 Savage. It's his third solo album and features guests such as Travis Scott, Summer Walker, Metro Boomin, Doja Cat and many more.

And finally, D-Block Europe secure their first number one album with "Rolling Stone".

The rap duo have had success in both the Singles and Album charts with multiple top 40 hit singles; their most successful track is "Prada", Casso's rework of "Ferarri Horses".

After years of waiting, D-Block Europe deserve the top spot for this week. Who knows if they can stay at the top next week.

EPILOGUE

This Friday, there are some releases to look out for and listen.

Hannah Boleyn of "DNA (Loving You)" fame returns with "Dominos", a song produced by D.O.D. (Recorded "So Much In Love").

A good trance tune, almost makes me want to order a Dominos Pizza.

Now this is a crazy crossover. Mumford & Sons and Pharrell Williams. It's called "Good People" and it was performed at the Paris Fashion Week a few days ago.

Becky Hill is set to release her second album this year. To help get her fans excited, she's teamed up with Sonny Fodera on a track called "Never Been Alone".

The last single to look out for is "Canarsie" by Russ Millions & Fivio Foreign. The two rappers have met before in the remixed version of "Body", which was a number one smash in 2021.

In the world of albums, Green Day release their album 'Saviours'. It's their 14th album and the band are still going strong; despite the fact that many of their old fans may not be into their new material.

Wrexham's Neck Deep release their 5th album 'Neck Deep'. The pop-punk group are looking to secure their first number one album, and they'll have to go against Green Day to achieve this.
