Overview of the UK Charts - 23rd February 2024

February is almost over and March is on the horizon. That means we'll be seeing the last few new entries and high climbers before this month ends.

So without further ado, let's take a look at what has occurred in this week's UK Singles & Albums charts.

SINGLES

The closest to missing out on the top 40 this week is NewEra with "Birds In The Sky". The duo will only have to settle with a position at #44. Maybe they'll make it next week.

In the top 40, the Good Neighbours keep on slowly rising up the charts. "Home" is now at #30.

Calvin Harris and Rag'n'Bone Man reunite together again. Their new single. "Lovers In A Past Life" charts at #19.

After weeks of trying to topple Noah Kahan off the top spot, Sophie Ellis-Bextor's groove has been killed by the DJ.

"Murder On The Dancefloor" falls from #2 to #16 this week. Not even the BAFTA performance was enough to propel the song to number one.

#11 is a surprising one. Djo makes his entry with "End Of The Beginning".

But who is this 'Djo'? Well it turns out that this is the musical project of Stranger Things Actor Joe Keery. As always, TikTok helped make the song fly up the charts and the song itself was originally released in 2022.

In to the top 10 now. Noah Kahan's seven week reign at number one ends as "Stick Season" falls to #5.

One place higher at #4 is Dua Lipa with "Training Season", her second single from the upcoming album "Training Season".

Benson Boone is this week's runner up. "Beautiful Things" has risen to #2, a whole month after release.

And at number one, it's pop diva Beyonce, who has got the whole country dancing to country music again.

"Texas Hold 'em" respectfully takes the number one spot. The reason for this is simple, Beyonce has gone in a new direction and it's worked. Who knew her singing would fit well with the sounds of American country music?

ALBUMS

It's been a very busy week for the album charts.

Bob Marley & The Wailers' 'Exodus' re-enters the charts at #36. The last time the album was in the top 40 was in May 1979.

Huddersfield Rapper Booter Bee claims his first top 40 album at #33 with 'True Stories'. He got into trouble months ago after some of the lyrics to the song referenced the murder of a 15 year old boy.

Three places at #31 is the American band Blackberry Smoke with their eighth album 'Be Right Here'. The Country rock group have been jamming around the World since 2000.

Former Genesis Guitarist, Steve Hackett, is at #30 with 'The Circus and the Nightwhale'.

Since Steve left Genesis in 1977, he has released 27 solo albums. Most are rock, some are classical and one is a blues album; you're not alone Beyonce.

American rapper Yeat makes his first appearance in the album charts with '2093' at #24.

He gained recognition with his collaboration with Illumination studios with the song "Rich Minion"; it was done to promote the movie 'Minions: Rise of Gru' and the song would become popular on TikTok.

This led to the 'Gentleminions' trend where young people would go to watch the movie in full tuxedo and bow ties.

Cast are back with their seventh album 'Love Is The Call'. It's entered at #22 and is the band's highest charting album since the oddly titled 'Beetroot' in 2001.

John Power, the lead singer and guitarist of Cast, used to play for the Las. They were known for their 1989 classic "There She Goes".

The new entries keep on coming. At #17 it's Pet Needs, a Colchester based Punk rock group, who secure their first top 20 album 'Intermittent Fast Living'.

It's been released on the indie label Xtra Mile Recordings, which was sadly affected by the London Riots of 2011 as their warehouse (along with other Sony recordings) was set on fire.

Into the top 10, The Crawlers crawl to #7 with 'The Mess We Seem To Make'. It's their first full album, yet it's not the first time the Crawlers made it into the charts.

Two years ago, their E.P. 'Loud Without Noise got to' #22 in November 2022.

Thanks to the Bob Marley biopic 'One Love', Bob's 'Legend' compilation returns to the top 10 at #6. At the time of its original release in May 1984, it debuted at number one and stayed at the top for 12 weeks.

Paloma Faith is at #2 with 'The Glorification Of Sadness', her only number one album so far is 'The Architect', which got to the top in November 2017.

And finally, IDLES are this week's number one band with their fifth album 'Tangk'. It's their second number one UK album, along with 'Ultra Mono' in September 2020.

EPILOGUE

This week's releases show yet more variety.

MGMT are known for their songs "Kids", "Time To Pretend" and "Little Dark Age". Now they're back with a their new fifth album named 'Loss Of Life'.

It marks their first album not to be released by Columbia and now they reside on indie lable Mom + Pop records.

Rapper Ghetts returns with his fourth album named 'On Purpose'. He almost made it to number one with 'Conflict Of Interest', only to be beaten by Scottish post rockers Mogwai.

The Snuts are back with a third album named 'Millenials'. Their first album 'W.L.' beat Demi Lovato to number one by over 250 copies.

And lastly, Erika De Casier releases her second album 'Still'. She recently has become respected after she co-wrote the K-Pop hit "Supershy" for NewJeans.
