Overview of the Official Charts - 1st March 2024

Apologies for not releasing this yesterday on St. David's Day. The Official Charts website kept on crashing for me and I did not have enough time to write this all up.

Today, the site's working and it's time to see what's been going on in the first week of March in the charts.

SINGLES

Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners have been lurking outside the top 40 for a long time with the single "Evergreen". It's at #42 this week and the Seattle based band are hopeful it can make it after the song made its debut in the charts exactly a year ago.

NewEra finally make it at #40 with 'Birds In The Sky'. It's the Irish electronic duo's first hit in the charts.

Another debut in the UK is Muni Long with "Made For Me" at #37, a decent song that's another call back to 90s R&B.

Muni Long is 35 years old and from the state of Florida. She's been in the music industry since 2008 and has had some hits in the USA such as 'Hrs & Hr's (Made it to #41 in February 2022).

Muni has also had success with songwriting, an example being Fifth Harmony's "Worth It".

Bryson Tiller returns to the charts at #31 with 'Whatever She Wants'. He blew up in Summer 2017 when he collaborated with DJ Khaled and Rihanna on the number-one hit single "Wild Thoughts".

There is yet another debut in this week's singles charts as Pozer secures his first hit at #29 with "Kitchen Stove".

The Croydon based rapper has been teasing this song for months on social media and it seems that all this teasing has been worth it at the end.

Central Cee has been nominated for a lot of awards at this years' Brit Awards and what a good way to celebrate that with a song at #18 with 'I Will'.

"Saturn" is the 13th song from SZA to enter the top 40. The song has charted at #15 and it's the first song from her upcoming album 'Lana'.

In the top 10, the controversial Kanye West secures another top 10 hit. "Carnival" is at #9 and features a collab with Ty Dolla Sign.

Recently, Kanye West has been teasing a trilogy of his 'Vultures' project on social media; so it seems that more is to come.

Joe Keery of Stranger Things is living the life as his Djo project enters the top 5 with "End Of The Beginning". Thanks TikTok.

As Teddy Swims climbs to #2 with "Lose Control", Beyonce secures a second week at #1 with the country bop "Texas Hold 'Em". Act 2 can't come any sooner.

ALBUMS

Rapping Veteran Ghetts is at #29 with 'On Purpose With Purpose'. He's been rapping since 2003, after he was released from prison and released his first mix tape called '2000 & Life' in 2005.

At #25 is singer-songwriter Nadine Shah with her 5th album 'Filthy Underneath'. She was once friends with Amy Winehouse when she moved to London in 2003.

Interestingly, three Taylor Swift albums have charted close to each other. 'Midnights' at #16, 'Lover' at #15 and 'Folklore' at #14.

The Red Rum Club are a rock group from Liverpool and have secured their first top 10 album at #8. 'Western Approaches'. They're currently on tour around the UK this month.

The Snuts makes Scotland proud again as their album, 'Millennials', charts at #2. They had a close chart battle with this week's #1, but it's nonetheless another top 3 album for the band.

And Jools Holland has finally done it! He's finally made it to #1 in the UK Albums charts for the first time in his 50 year music career.

The album is called 'Swing Fever' and it's a collaboration with Rod Stewart consisting of covers of jazz songs from the early to mid 20th Century.
